Three Fingered Jack BC Ski

Three Fingered Jack BC Ski

Outing Coordinator: Mike Caccavano
Date: Sunday February 23, 2013
Start: 9 a.m. at Santiam Sno-Park
Elevation Gain / (Loss): 1,500’+/-

Directions to Start: From Sisters, take Hwy 20 west to Santiam Sno-Park on the north side of the highway across from the Hoodoo turnoff (20 miles).
Sisters Carpool: Meet at Sisters Coffee Company at 8:30 a.m. If lots of people are coming from Bend, we’ll set up a Bend carpool that will leave at 8:00 a.m.

Outing Description: Skin up to and along the south ridge of Three Fingered Jack. One way distance is 3.5 to 4 miles. We’ll try to reach the open slope on the southwest side of 3FJ, but if the conditions don’t work out there is plenty of decent skiing on either side of the ridge.

Equipment & Clothing Needs: Normal winter day outing clothing, food and liquids, 10 essentials, backcountry skis and skins, split snowboards and skins, beacons, probes and shovels. People on backcountry nordic skis (metal edges) can make it up to the ridge (I’ve done it several times), but travel is difficult along and up the ridge and of course the trip down is a little more challenging.

Skills, Experience & Fitness Level Needed: Skiing is easy to expert depending on the route you take down. Need to be reasonably fit.

Maximum Number of Participants & RSVP Requirements: Limit of 8 Participants
