29 Oct Rock Climbing at Smith Rock
Date: Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013
Group Leader: Frank Florence
Target Audience: Climbers interested in climbing moderate multi-pitch gear routes.
This will be a fun day of rock climbing on traditional gear routes. We will focus on moderate grade routes (to 5.6, 5.7), most likely on the Red Wall. Routes will involve multiple pitches, so this outing can be considered training in skills that are useful on alpine routes. Rope teams will be limited to three people (one leader, two following.) Therefore, space is limited.
Basic rock climbing skills are required, including familiarity with tying in, belaying, and rappelling. Rope leaders will be responsible for placing protection and building anchors. Followers will need to remove gear placed on lead.
Climbing equipment: climbing shoes, harness, helmet, locking carabiner and belay device, additional carabiners and one sling to self-anchor. (4’ recommended.)
Daypack, water, lunch food, additional clothing as appropriate. Optional: belay gloves, chalk bag, camera.
Rope leaders will bring ropes and climbing gear, including cams, nuts, slings, etc.
