March 13 Meeting

March 13 Meeting

TimN2We have a great speaker lined up for our next meeting which will be March 13, 7:00 p.m. at the Environmental Center on 16 NW Kansas Ave.

The topic “Blood, Bunkers and Beauty: A Journey into the Cursed Alps of Albania, Montenegro and Kosovo”.

As a correspondent for Outside magazine and frequent contributor to the New York Times, Tim Neville over the past few years has been on a whirlwind of adventures, all in the name of “work.” He’s explored the remote, harsh beauty of far northwestern Australia, gone scuba diving over ancient Roman wrecks in Croatia, and provided support for Alex Honnold as the famed free-soloist climbed Yosemite’s three biggest big walls in less than 24 hours.

But one region of late has captured his imagination like few others have: the mountainous border zone between Albania, Montenegro and Kosovo. Join us to hear Tim will present pictures and tales from an exploratory trek deep into the Cursed Mountains, some of the most glaciated (and yet to be climbed) peaks in Europe after the Alps. Imagine a limestone Yosemite from 200 years ago, when no one had heard of a Starbucks.
